Happy Birthday, Mariko!

Thursday, March 8, 2012

mariko gordon, jason poole, accidental hawaiian crooner,

Happy Birthday, Mariko!

Do you guys know my buddy, Mariko?

She’s my business partner, mentor, support system and one of the coolest people I know.

AND TODAY IS HER BIRTHDAY!

In my mind, today should be some sort of national holiday.  A day for celebrations throughout the land.

A day to celebrate an amazing person.

And you guys know she wrote a fantastic Hawaiian song, right?  She did!   And I recorded it!  And we made a video–complete with an awesome hula that she choreographed!  (Please click HERE to learn more about it!  And please click HERE to watch the video!)

So today, Ms. Mariko, the whole Accidental Hawaiian Crooner community celebrates YOU.

Happy Birthday, my friend!

HAUʻOLI LĀ HĀNAU IĀ ʻOE!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MARIKO!

Monday, March 8, 2010

Today at The Accidental Hawaiian Crooner, I’m giving a special shout-out to one of my bestest buddies and my mentor, Mariko Gordon. It’s her BIRTHDAY!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, TIGER LADY!

Without Mariko, this site wouldn’t exist.

Here’s some history: Last November, she watched a talk story that I’d given in Chicago. In December, Mariko approached me and planted the seed for this site and the vision quickly became a reality. With her guidance and unending support, we were able to launch this site a week ago—and it continues to grow everyday!

Mariko may have grown up in exotic locations like the French Caribbean and Hawai’i, but you would really have to search high and low to find a more down-to-earth pal. She’s not afraid to dive down into the trenches with me. And she’s not afraid to get her hands dirty–figuratively and literally! (I can’t wait to see her in the lo’i on Molokai later this month! Pictures to follow, for sure! Stay tuned!)

She’s one heck of a busy lady, too! I’m lucky to be able to get through to her! I’m convinced her cell phone number is a closely guarded government secret.

When she’s not mentoring me, she’s captaining her own company, Daruma Asset Management, Inc. Or she’s waving her magic wand, assisting countless others as they pursue their heart’s dream.

If she’s not at the office, you might find her in Central Park with a notebook on her lap as she writes a new Hawaiian mele (song.) I’m not kidding–she REALLY writes Hawaiian songs!

Or you might even be lucky enough to find her delighting audiences with her hula. Hint: Listen for the sounds of Mi Nei or Pua ʻĀhihi in the air…

OR … you might actually catch her at home with her amazing family. (p.s. I’m so glad they are willing to share her with others like me! Everyone needs someone like Mariko in their world!)

It’s easy to celebrate such a special person. And I’m truly honored to call her my friend.

HAU’OLI LĀ HĀNAU E MARIKO!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MARIKO!

You are an inspiration to me and to so many others. In so many ways.
