HAPPY BIRTHDAY, POPS!

Friday, May 29, 2015

Jason Poole, Accidental Hawaiian Crooner, Molokai, Anakala Pilipo, Halawa Valley

See that handsome man in the photo?  That’s my teacher, my kumu.

He’s also my Hawaiian Pops.

And I say a prayer of thanks for him every day.

It’s his birthday today.

And I’m singing it as loudly as I can:

Happy Birthday, Pops!  Hauʻoli Lā Hānau!  I’m so glad you were born!

Right on

HAPPY 75TH BIRTHDAY, POPS!

Wow!  ʻAnakala Pilipo Solatorio–my beloved Hawaiian teacher & my Hawaiian “Pops”–turns 75 today!

That’s something to celebrate!

This man is an example of living Aloha.  He truly “walks the talk.”

And it’s an honor to be his student and hānai son.

HAUʻOLI LĀ HĀNAU, POPS!

Right on.

Guess what…

It’s Pops’ birthday today!

HAUʻOLI LĀ HĀNAU E POPS!

Today we are celebrating the birthday of my hānai Pops.  My Hawaiian Dad.  My kumu.  My teacher.  My source.

My life has been forever changed by this guy.  He rocks.

And I’m so thankful he was born.

Right on.

P.S. If you want to leave a birthday message for Pops in the Comments section, I’ll make sure he gets it.

A new decade begins with one word:

Aloha, gang.

Today I’m embarking on a new decade in life.

I found that I was spending a lot of time “lost in thought” this afternoon.  But interestingly, I wasn’t mourning the passing of my youth or dreading a new decade.

Instead, I was thinking about how thankful I am.  For everything.

What a perfect way to begin this new chapter.

Grateful.

Right on.

What are YOU thankful for today?
